Enhanced Automotive's Project 993 Porsche

So after selling the VT SS, Brad got the bug to have another project car, but this time he wanted something 'different', not a Holden, or a Ford, just something different, but what? We kept our eye out for months, and finally, this Porsche came up for sale, and after a bit of homework on the car, Brad thought why not? Its different, its ultra light, and it can fit a V8 in the back......

So the wait to get her from Tasmania felt like forever, but she finally rocked up at the workshop. We were told she had 'slight' body damage, when we saw her, the rear bar was pretty much being held together with race tape.... Few hours repairing the rear bar, and it was sent to the painters for a lick of paint.

So now how to get her street registered.... After numerous phone calls to Regency and Transport SA it seemed to be a massive task. Although as the pictures above show, she was registered in Melbourne before the owner we brought it off purchased her. But South Australian government have their own set of rules to the rest of Australia. They wanted to see an Australian Compliance Plate, well, she didnt have one..... So in order to get one, they would require us to go to Regency Inspection Centre have a Tier 2 inspection, (numbers check) defect the car for not having the complicance plate, then issue us with the required paperwork to get a new compliance plate.... All good if your going to keep it stock..... But we arent keeping it stock, and have no use for brand new brakes, bearings etc.... The Porsche has also been fitted with aftermarket rims, which has set the track of the car out by 70mm. So in order to get her off defect, we would need standard rims, new brakes, all bushes and bearings done throughout etc etc, the list just kept going....

So we decided to have her engineered, and with the help of Sot from Speed Garage Engineering, we have started the engineering process...

Sot came out to the workshop to have a look over her, and take some notes of what Brad's intentions with her were....

A week later, he had sent off the required paperwork to get approval for the modifications.

4 weeks later, the approval letter came in the mail detailing the approval for:

  • The fitting of a 5.7ltr Chev engine fitted with twin turbo charges

  • Increased wheel size

  • Increased wheel track

  • Fitting of an aftermarket Race Pack Dash...

  • Just to name a few, as the photo doesnt show both pages....

Another condition of the approval is that our baby went to Sot and had a Torsional Rigidity test conducted, below are some photos I snapped while she was getting put onto the torsion twist machine... She passed the requirements set by Transport SA.

Next, just for sh*ts and giggles, I made Brad put her on the dyno for a before 'Enhanced' run....

She made a tidy 120.2kw at the treads... Not bad for an old girl....

So next, the mastermind behind Enhanced Automotive decides he is going to design and produce his very own V8 out of Billet alloy.

Hows he doing it? Well being a mechanic for as long as he has, he has a good idea of all the weak points in the LS series engines... so he is designing his own engine, keeping the LS base, but fixing all the weak points and bad design areas of the LS Series engines...

Here he is here, on the family room floor having some 'me' time with his laptop. Designing and drawing the engine for the Porsche....

So, about a week or so ago, just like any normal day, Brad asked me to run down to the Metal supplier to pick up more alloy. When i got there, the usual boys were present to assist me in putting the alloy in my car, only this time, they thought it was funny... Saying "Cat, we dont know how your going to fit this lot into your car" I was like, oh dear, what has he ordered? And they take me over to 3 massive sized blocks of alloy..... I just laughed and said maybe it would fit in the glovebox???? lol

(He had actually sent me there for other smaller pieces of alloy, but the boys were so excited about the big blocks for the engine and heads, they forgot about the alloy for our customers that was sitting in the normal pick up area)

So the photos above are our Engine and Heads.....

Our plans for the Porsche besides the engine and twin turbos are full paint job, custom interior and Billet Rims.

I will continue to update this page as we continue the build of our baby.

23rd March 2017 - Update

So its been a while since Ive had time to do any updates on the Porsche build, or any updates to the website actually.... So thought I would give a quick update.

So I spent about 3 days completely stripping the Porsche, removing EVERYTHING we dont need, which is everything lol...

She then was sent to a sandblaster to clean her all up.

And she came back nice and clean, ready for me to put an undercoat of primer on her...

Meanwhile, Brad started on the engine block in the CNC machine.....

So, then Brad got that busy building another Billet Engine for the Mastec Salt Lake Race Car, that our engine and heads have been put on hold, until Brad has caught up in the workshop with all the current work he has on the go....

So, on the 10th of December, I got a little impatient and decided to begin the next stage of the Porsche build, which is making a steel jig, so the car can be unstitched and the full roll cage be fabricated....

Brad being sneaky and taking photos of me cutting up my steel...

Ends of my jig done, now to just do the centre beams....

So with this Porsche build going from just putting an LS engine and twin turbo's to a full CNC Billet Engine, Billet Heads, Billet Rims, the list that Brad and I have added to it, is just ridiculous. The engine is now going to be front mounted, instead of rear mounted, and it will only be a 2 seater so we can have a full roll cage. All new modifications have been approved by Regency.

So we decided to buy another car that we could just do the original plans for the Porsche too...... So Brad brought me a Chevy Luv on the 12th December, just 2 days after I cracked a hissey about nothing get done to my Porsche...... lol
